Wanda Tia

​Wanda Bamberg Tia, well known as “WandaWoman”, is a dancer, choreographer, fitness expert, and creator of the “Wanda Woman Dance Workout” (a fusion of African, hip-hop, and jazz) with over 30 years of experience. Recognized as one of the “Great Women of Washington DC” for her dedication to community fitness, Wanda’s motto is, “It’s never too late to get into shape and lead a healthier lifestyle.” Her teaching techniques are infused with an infectious spirit and energy to keep bodies moving, hearts happy, and lifestyles healthy.

Traditionally promoting her classes to include all ages and races, she now teaches the young (Howard University students, young professionals, and middle and high school students) and the young-at-heart (individuals recovering from mental illness, cancer and looking for relief from, or prevention of obesity, arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease).

Wanda was the first African-American woman to create and run her own dance/group fitness studio in the metropolitan D.C. area. Since 1980, she has taught and managed dance and group fitness classes and programs for health clubs, dance studios, corporations, government agencies, churches, and public and private middle/high schools in Washington, D.C.

She is well known for her high-energy, dance-inspired master classes that have taken her as far as Botswana, Southern Africa. She was featured on NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo for 17 years. She appeared on FIT TV, Good Morning America, Home Team Sports, and NBC4’s “Your Olympic Workout” series with Anchorwoman Barbara Harrison. She has been featured in several magazines including Essence, Heart and Soul, and numerous other major publications.

Recent accomplishments include the following community activities organized and directed by Mrs. Bamberg Tia:

• Lafayette Elementary School African Dance Ensemble
• Incorporation of the non-profit, Work It! Foundation
• Launch of the Fitness Divas, a DC based Dance-Fitness Team of professional,
multi-cultural women ages 40-70 years
• Master classes in Botswana, Southern Africa at the Village Health Club
• Served as Chairperson for the:
–American Heart Association’s “Dance For Heart”
–DC Chapter, American Diabetes “Walk For Life”
