CROSSFIT REGIONALS TEAM SPOTLIGHT: CRAIG WILLIAMS

Meet Craig Williams – when he’s not running the show at CrossFit Balance Thomas Circle, he’s been training for the CrossFit Regionals Team Competition. Learn what he loves about CrossFit, how he’s been training for Regionals, and more in our interview!

How long have you been doing CrossFit? What are your favorite things about the sport?

I’ve been doing CrossFit for 8 years and I love how its always evolving and the challenges never stop coming. This will be my fifth year competing in Regionals and the second time competing on Team CrossFit Balance.

What are your goals for the CrossFit Regionals this year? What are you most looking forward to?

My goal is to take one event at a time and execute as well as we can every single event. I am most nervous and most looking forward to the handstand walk obstacle in the first event.

How has your training been going so far? How many hours a day do you usually spend training?

Training has been going very well and I typically spend 2-3 hours a day training, five days a week. Typically I train on my own three times a week, and we train as a team on the weekends to accommodate everyone’s schedules.

Are you following a nutrition plan while you’re getting ready for regionals? How do you change your nutrition in preparation for the competition?

I don’t change my diet of specifically for regionals, but at regionals there will be lots of rice and other carb sources going into my body for energy. My go to meal is rice and steak. I eat that at least twice a day along with other healthy choices like salad and fish.

How do you balance training for Regionals with everything else in your life? What do you like to do when you’re not training?

Training for regionals is not much different than normal training. Your always looking to improve, but outside of the gym I like to spend time outdoors with my fiancé and our two dogs.

What’s something you wish more people knew about CrossFit/CrossFit competitions/etc.?

CrossFit competitions is not CrossFit. I love the competitive aspect of CrossFit but the beauty of CrossFit is in the everyday people that can live a better more capable life through CrossFit.
