We’re proud of our partners at SEEC and the incredible work they do for the disability community
There’s no place quite like Washington, D.C., which is why we take a lot of pride in supporting local and the relationships we foster with our local partners. For the SEEC, their goal of supporting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities is one that we are happy to support in any way possible.
Helping those with disabilities
Unfortunately, there are still a lot of barriers for those with disabilities when seeking work or just assimilating into their community. Because of this, SEEC partners with over 100 employers in the Montgomery County and Washington D.C. area to help them feel supported when engaging with the community. Not only that, but the SEEC is dedicated to giving those with disabilities the opportunity to further connect with others, take on new interests, showcase their talent and skills, and thrive in their community.
With a progressive mission to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities take on more control of their lives, they can make their choices with dignity, authority, and responsibility. This inclusion helps to break down negative stereotypes of people with disabilities being “needy” to that of “contributing” and showing that they have a lot in common with their non-disabled peers.
You can help
As the community surrounding the SEEC continues to grow, they are always looking for ways to further their successful endeavors. There are so many ways to help them with their mission and as a current partner with the SEEC, Balance Gym encourages you to give in whatever way you can.
To give back you can contribute your time and money in the following ways:
Donate
In one of the easiest forms of assistance, you can donate money directly to benefit the SEEC. Beyond direct monetary donations, they also accept the following:
- Make a tribute gift in honor of a loved one or special occasion
- Make a bequest by including SEEC in your will
- Shop Amazon Smile and earn money for SEEC with every order
- Designate SEEC as your charity of choice in your workplace giving campaign CFC#36458
- Donate appreciated stock (tax savings for you to benefit someone in need)
- Donate a car https://careasy.org/nonprofit/SEEC-Corporation
Become an employer
A great way to help those with disabilities achieve greater independence is through their ability to work. Not only does it help those in need, but it helps your business by diversifying your workforce, improving efficiency, and demonstrating a commitment to improving the lives of others in your community.
Volunteer
The SEEC treats their volunteer program with the same personalized approach they do with everything else. By matching opportunities to volunteers based on personal interests and skills sets, the SEEC gives those with disabilities the best care possible from their volunteers. This includes mock interviews, joining Job Club as a guest speaker, helping with events, and serving on committees.
