April is here, and with it the wonderful season of Spring is in full swing. Flowers are blooming, gardens are growing, and the air is ripe with possibility. One of those incredible possibilities is for all of us to get a little more activity in our lives.
April is National Move More Month, which was started by the American Heart Association to encourage people to get out and move a little more, whether it’s the commonly prescribed 10,000 steps, 20-minutes of cardio, or even some weightlifting. The main objective is to get out there and move a little more to help prevent cardiovascular disease.
The projected cost of cardiovascular and heart disease is $1 trillion by 2035 unless people start to move more and get more exercise. The incredible thing is that 80% of cardiovascular disease in America is preventable, with the primary prevention method simply being to increase movement.
So, lace up your shoes, go for a walk, or for a little extra challenge, go for a run. Hell, you can even lift weights if cardio isn’t your thing, but make sure you get a little pep in your step this April. A happy healthy heart is the goal!
