Balance was Born in dc

Balance Gym is a DC-born and bred business with humble beginnings: Balance began as a bootcamp space off a basketball court in Kalorama, where our founder Mark Crick dreamed of opening a gym to house the city’s very best trainers and a no-BS attitude toward fitness. Fifteen years later, Balance has four award-winning gyms in the Thomas Circle, Foggy Bottom, Glover Park, and Capitol Hill neighborhoods, and three award-winning CrossFit boxes. Our Glover Park location is also home to Balance Burn – one of only two Lagree fitness studios in DC, and the only one to feature the Megaformer MS3.

One thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to “train for sport, train for life.”

Balance offers more than 40 online classes per week, including our signature Balance Bootcamp (which we take outside to the surrounding neighborhoods or our roof deck when the weather allows—and whenever we open our doors back up to the public), Balance Body classes; traditional classes like yoga, barre, and Zumba. In addition, CrossFit Balance, led by Danielle Dionne, sent teams to the CrossFit Games in 2017 and 2018 – and the team brought home sixth place in 2018. They have Zoom classes you can

What is particularly close to our hearts is our community. Throughout the year (and before COVID-19), Balance hosted hikes, rooftop parties, scavenger hunts, farm weekends, and many fitness events for our members. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, we know you’ll feel welcome here at Balance. Coaches and members become friends, trainers and clients attend sporting events and concerts, and we pride ourselves on our involvement in the local community through annual support of many charities and local sports teams, such as the DC Eagles rugby team and the DC Strokes rowing club. In addition, Balance has been a leading supporter of both Bike to the Beach and Cupid’s Undie Run for more than a decade, is an annual participant in the Capital Pride Parade, and for the last two years has partnered with the Women’s Strength Coalition to host the second annual Pull for Pride Deadlift Competition in support of Casa Ruby.

It's a great gym in a small, but really well utilized space and a really good amount of equipment. I've never really felt like all of the machines/benches are busy and I've been going here for about... a year now. Only issue with it is the price as it's a bit steep for a gym membership, but it's the middle of Capitol Hill and they do offer really good classes as part of the membership fee, so it's honestly decent value for $$$, just wish there were some cheaper options around this area.read more

Three floors of terrific workout equipment, clean bathrooms and every piece of cardio equipment for every kind of workout. I wandered in here a recent rainy Sunday and was able to do a HIIT-style... workout and play with the wide selection of medicine balls, battle ropes, ski ergs, assault bikes and curved treadmills. Seriously, great place and very welcoming.read more

I have been going to Foggy Bottom CrossFit classes for 6 months and I love the gym. Coach Karolin runs the strength training program. She makes everyone feel great and gives the proper scale to help... you get better at whatever movement you want to work on. The coaches have additional classes throughout the week. Including 2 Olympic lifting classes, run club every Sunday, and 1 gymnastics class every week. Coach Brandon holds a lot of these and he is just a wonderful person and coach. This is in addition to the classes offered every day from early morning to night. To top it all off, the CrossFit gym is inside of a regular gym so you can train outside of the CrossFit offerings. Big shout out to Coach Eric that has been personal training me for a few months now and I see great improvements!read more

Update with adding one star. The pool is finally renovated and the water is super clean. If you come at hours without the kids classes you will enjoy the new pool and the spa.Always like my gym.... Small but friendly. Adequate equipment and very clean.Update: dropped 2 stars. They are having a pretty bad problem of towels lately. Most of the time, the towel shelf is empty. The guests start hoarding towels because of that which made things worse. The man's shower stalls also have drainage problem. It seems after covid things are getting bad.read more

This is a true community gym! I signed up for a short term membership while in town for a conference/vacation, and it perfectly suited my needs for lifting heavy sh*t and a friendly... environment.Miss D is an absolute joy. I'm grateful that she was open to chatting with me every morning (I can be a bit much 😅), and I loved watching her interact with other members. She was constantly warm, friendly, and encouraging.I read a few comments about the equipment here on Google. I agree that the equipment is a bit haphazardly placed, but I also saw very few members contributing to the maintenance and organization of the equipment. When we are members of a gym community, it is our responsibility to leave equipment in a place and state that we found it or better. I hope that folks read this message and choose the courage and confidence to be part of helping Balance be the best it can be 💪The gym is located in the lower level of the hotel, so it's a bit hard to find, but there are always friendly hotel staff around to help.Their fridge is stocked with all the best caffeine and protein supplements, and they have a good selection of protein bars as well.Overall, I found the facilities to be clean and well suited to any strength or cardio program I wished to perform.I'll be working out here again anytime I come back to D.C. Thank you, Miss D, and thank you Balance community for the welcome and inspiration to kick butt every morning!read more

Just was in the neighborhood it's a jewel though could see they're taking covic19 seriously. Stay balanced though out.
An amazing gym with a phenomenal staff! Jacob, the GM was extremely patient and tending to my million questions about what the gym has to offer. Boy, was I surprised! They have a variety of good... equipment available, different sections to do turf workouts, weight lifting, cardio, yoga, etc. the building used to be a spa, so the locker rooms are dreamy, and they offer specials on esthetic/massage work upstairs. I was able to take a boot camp class before signing up for a membership. The class was challenging, but within reason. The coach was enthusiastic, and everybody was having a good time. There is a Crossfit section as well! And they even offer classes like solid core, with the Pilates machine! This gym has everything you need, even parking in the back! Ask for Jacob and he’ll set you up. Also—lots of cool freebies like a free personal training session and three free Pilates reformer classes to start you off!read more

It took leaving DC and looking for a new gym to know how good I had it at Balance. The coaches are fantastic, the price is one of the best in DC, and if the sense of community doesn't motivate you to... get to the gym and improve yourself, nothing will. Yes, the classes can be a bit crowded but I've never been turned away, the coaches always know how to make it work. And yes, all these people mean the equipment is not the most immaculate. Ultimately, though, you're there to get a workout, get stronger, and to be a part of a supportive community that'll help you get there. You'll get all the above here and more.read more
